Camerlab bv developed an installation with which CO2 can be captured by passing air or an exhaust gas through the installation in which a cool surface is realized on which the gaseous CO2, present in the air or the waste gas, changes its state of aggregation and deposits it as a snow-shaped mass. This mass is led out of the installation and stored, after which it can be used in various production processes or stored.
There is a multitude of technologies known to capture CO2. During the preliminary study however, no technique was observed in which, as with Camerlab, CO2 is captured in a specific cryogenic way that does not require to cool down the gas completely and therefore requiring significant less energy compared to other processes, cryogenic or other. The calculations show that the cost per ton is considerably lower than that of other existing installations for capturing CO2.
Another unique aspect of the concept is that, with minor modifications, other gasses can also be removed from the air, particularly methane and ammonia.
The patent application has been made and granted.
